Hoshigami Park has a parking lot, pavilion, and walking paths, and in spring you can enjoy the rows of cherry blossom trees that have been selected as one of Gifu Prefecture’s top 100 cherry blossoms. Of course, in addition to spring, you can enjoy the changing scenery of the rich natural environment in all four seasons. The huge granite rock in the wooded area is commonly called “Hoshigami Rock”. There is a cave in Hoshigami Rock, and there is a legend that if you looked up at the sky through the gap in the rock, you could see stars even during the day. Hoshigami Rock is famous nationwide as a power spot.
Magome-juku on Nakasendo, one of the five highways of the Edo period, is a post town with stone pavements. The quaint Edo townscape is a very popular tourist destination. Magome-juku’s western topography is also famous for its curved streets called “Masugata” to make it difficult for enemies to invade. At the halfway point of the post station, the birthplace of Toson Shimazaki, a famous figure who was active in the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras, stands as the Fujison Memorial Museum, which is also popular. There are watermills, Amida-do Hall, and Edo-era streetlights called night lights.
Tsumago-juku is the 42nd stop on the Nakasendo Road, and currently belongs to Nagiso Town, Kiso District, Nagano Prefecture, and was selected as Japan’s first Important Traditional Building Preservation District in 1976. It used to be located at the junction of Nakasendo and Ina Kaido, and was a busy transportation hub. The vestiges of the Edo period remain intact, and the road from Tsumago-juku to Magome Pass is a quiet and quaint road, with old buildings remaining in the townscape of Masugata, and the night lights and water fountains of the post station. It reminds me of my face.
It has been selected as one of Japan’s 100 Best Forests for Forest Bathing, 50 Best Waters in Gifu Prefecture, and 33 Best Autumn Leaves in Hida and Mino. The water of the Tsukechi River is so clear that it is also called the “Blue River.” Among Tsukechi Gorge, Fudo Falls is a popular scenic spot for photography. The emerald green waterfall basin is popular as a photogenic spot. *In addition to Fudo Falls, there are also other famous waterfalls such as Kannon Falls and Takataru Falls. The entire Tsukechi Gorge area remains an untouched virgin forest, allowing you to enjoy the changing seasons. At Fudo Park, you can also take a walk on the promenade while looking at the waterfall.
Naegi Castle is a tourist spot that has been designated as a national historic site. It has also been selected as one of Japan’s top 100 castles. Naegi Castle is a rare castle whose stone walls are made of natural granite. Reproduced scaffolding called Kakezukuri is also used at Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto. It is characterized by its spectacular views, so much so that it is sometimes referred to as “Castle in the Sky” or “Gifu’s Machu Picchu.” From the top of the mountain, you can see a panoramic view of Nakatsugawa City, Mt. Ena, Kiso River, etc., making it a great photo spot. The castle tower observation deck is also equipped with Wi-Fi.
Gin no Mori is a gourmet spot located at the foot of Mt. Ena. You can enjoy local gourmet food and shopping while feeling the changing nature of the four seasons. If you purchase take-out food, you can also eat in the free space within the park. Gin no Mori also has a picnic area and a promenade where you can enjoy forest bathing. If you’re lucky, you might even encounter rare animals such as the Japanese serow.
An amusement park with a scenic view of Ena Gorge that can be enjoyed by both children and adults. There are over 30 types of play equipment for children and families, so you can have plenty of fun all day long. You might be able to meet seasonal plants and animals! The Yumori Falls Tour, which takes you around five waterfalls, is popular. It is famous for “Ryujin Falls,” which has been selected as one of Gifu Prefecture’s top 50 famous waters. It has an impressive drop of 12 meters. It is also a popular power spot. There is Ryujin Shrine near Ryujin Falls, which is said to bring good luck in winning matches. In addition to the waterfall, it is also a popular spot for autumn leaves around mid-November.
A theme park where you can enjoy stones by seeing, touching, and experiencing Japan’s first stone museum, where “gem hunting” is popular. You can go on a puzzle-solving adventure in the stone pyramid and have a mysterious encounter with stones that can only be found here.
